1. refund [ˈriːfʌnd , rɪˈfʌnd] v.(refunds, refunding, refunded, refunded)/n.(refunds)

2. refusal [rɪˈfjuːzl] n.(refusals)

构词:re(回)+fus(灌,流)+al(名词后缀)→向回流→回绝,拒绝

辨:refuse,decline和rebuff

refuse意为“回绝,拒绝”,普通用词,指拒绝做某事或接受别人所给之物,作后者解时常可与turn down 换用。例:She refused to budge on a point of principle.(她在一个原则问题上拒绝让步)

decline意为“拒绝”,较为正式,指婉言谢绝他人的帮助、邀请等。例:I declined Mrs. Green’s warm invitation to dinner.(我谢绝了格林太太盛情的晚宴邀请)

rebuff意为“回绝,断然拒绝”,较为正式,指很不友好地拒绝别人善意的建议或帮助。例:She rebuffed all his offers of friendship in the letter.(在信中,她断然拒绝了他所有的友好表示)

例句:She refused to budge on a point of principle.

她在一个原则问题上拒绝让步。

The property management made collection of refuse once a day.

物业会每天收取一次垃圾。

4. regard [rɪˈɡɑːd] v.(regards, regarding, regarded, regarded) /n.(regards)

v. 认为,视为;(尤指以某种方式)注视,凝视

n. 注意,关心,关注;尊重,钦佩;致意,问候

固定搭配:regard sb./sth. (with sth.)/ sb./sth. as sth. 认为,视为

regard to/for sb./sth. 注意,关心,关注

regard (for sb./sth.) 尊重,钦佩

have regard to sth. 记住,仔细考虑

辨:regard和consider

regard意为“认为,看作”,强调对某事的主观判断,多指看法,不用进行时。例:When I was a little kid, he regarded me as his friend.(小时候,他把我当成朋友)

consider意为“考虑,认为”,指在作出选择、决定等之前细想,也指经过仔细考虑、观察后而得出比较客观的看法。例:She is considering whether to accept the customers’ advice.(她正在考虑是否接受顾客们的建议)

例句:Capital punishment is regarded as inhuman in that country.

在那个,死刑被认为是非人道的。

The government should pay proper regard to the needs of inner-city areas.

政府应该对市中心贫民区的需要给予应有的关注。

5. regarding [rɪˈɡɑːdɪŋ]

prep. 至于;关于

例句:Don’t hesitate to call me if you have any problems regarding your work.

你如果还有什么工作方面的问题就尽管给我打电话。

She didn’t seem to want to say even a word regarding you.

关于你的事情,她似乎一个字都不想说。

6. regardless [rɪˈɡɑːdləs]

adv. 不顾,不予理会

同:adv. irregardless

派:regardful adj.留心的;表示敬意的;深切注意的;关心的

regard n.注意;尊重;问候;凝视

regard v.注重,考虑;看待;尊敬;把……看作;与……有关

例句:Although it was dark, we continued the meeting regardless.

虽然天黑了,但我们并不理会,会议照常进行。

Despite her recent surgery she has been working regardless.

尽管最近做了手术,她还是不顾一切地工作。

7. regime [reɪˈʒiːm] n.(regimes)

n. (尤指未通过公正选举的不被认可的)统治方式,政权,政体;管理体制,组织方法

例句:The present regime has been in power for four years.
