考研英语——50个常见熟词僻义汇总

（1）address                         

n. 地址；演讲      v. 演讲；设法解决（问题等）

The professor is invited to address the lecture on genetic engineering.

这位教授受邀在关于基因工程的讲座上演讲。（speech）

The transport department must address (themselves to) the problem of traffic jam. 

交通部门必须设法解决交通拥堵的问题。

记：找个“地址”去“演讲”来“设法解决问题”。

（2）agent                  

n. 代理人；原动力，动因（指对事态起重要作用的人、事物）

The charity has been an agent for social change.

这个慈善机构一直在推动社会变革。（factor/motivator）

（3）answer                

n. 答案；解决办法；v. 符合；为……负责  

The only answer to this issue is to hold a negotiation between the two sides.

解决该问题的唯一方法就是让双方举行一次谈判。

Two women answering the description of the suspects tried to enter France.

符合嫌疑犯特征的两个女人试图进入法国。

All sales clerks answer to the store manager. (for sth.)

所有售货员都向商店经理负责。   

记：这个“答案”就是你的“解决办法”？倒是很“符合”你的风格，你要“为此负责”。

（4）anonymous             

adj. 匿名的；不知名的；没有特色的

The money was donated by a local businessman who wishes to remain anonymous.

这笔款子是当地一位不愿透露姓名的企业家捐赠的。

Nowadays, we can only see all the long stretches of dull and anonymous buildings in the city.

如今，我们只能看见城市中大片大片千篇一律、没有特色的建筑了。

记：“不知名的”饭店收到“匿名信”，说他们家饭菜“没有特色”。

（5）accommodation                                                  

ac 强调 + commod 方便 + ate 动词后缀 + ion 名词后缀 ⇒ 提供方便的地方 ⇒ 住宿

n. 住宿；和解，调和

They were forced to reach an accommodation with the rebels.

他们被迫与叛乱分子达成调解协议。

（同义词：reconciliation: re + con+ cil 召集 + ation = 再次召集大家共同开会 ⇒ 调和，和解 /compromise: com + promise = 共同承诺 ⇒ 和解）

派生：accommodate   v.为……提供住宿；使适应；考虑到，顾及

记：在“住宿”的地方起争执，然后“和解”了。
