Malaria, a mosquito-borne infectious disease, has a long and troubling history in China.For centuries, it was a leading cause of illness and death, (51)particularly in the humid southern regions.The Chinese name for malaria, “nüeji” (疟疾), (52)back to ancient medical texts, indicating its persistent presence.
