阅读材料,回答下面试题:
Do you want to live with astrong sense of peacefulness, happiness, goodness, and self-respect? Thecollection of happiness actions broadly categorized as "honor" helpyou create this life of good feelings.
Here's an example to show howhonorable actions create happiness.
Say a store clerk fails tocharge us for an item.If we keep silent, and profit from the clerk's mistake, we woulddrive home with a sense of sneaky excitement.Later wemight tell our family or friends about our good fortune. On the other hand, if we tell the clerk about the uncharged item, the clerk would be grateful and thank us for our honesty. We would leave the store with a quiet sense of honor that we mightnever share with another soul.
Then, what is it to do with oursense of happiness?
In the first case, where wedon't tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen.Deep down inside we would knowourselves as a type of thief. In the process, we wouldlose some peace of mind and self-respect.We would alsodemonstrate that we cannot be trusted, since we advertise our dishonor bytelling our family and friends. We damage our own repu-tationsby telling others. In contrast, bringing the error tothe clerk's attention causes dif-ferent things to happen.Immediately the clerk knows us to be honorable.Upon leaving the store, we feel honorable and our self-respect isincreased.Whenever we take honorable ac-tion we gainthe deep internal rewards of goodness and a sense of nobility.
There is a beautiful positivecycle that is created by living a life of honorable ac-tions.Honorable thoughts lead tohonorable actions.Honorable actions lead us to ahappier existence. And it's easy to think and act honorablyagain when we're happy. While the posi-tive cycle canbe difficult to start, once it's started, it's easy to continue.Keeping on doing good deeds brings us peace of mind, which isimportant for our happiness.

Henry Ford, the famous U.S.inventor and carmanufacturer, once said, "The busi-ness of America is business." By this he meant that the U.S.way of life is based on the values of the business world.
Few would argue with Ford's statement.A brief glimpse at a dailynewspaper vividly shows how many people in the United States think aboutbusiness. For example, nearlyevery newspaper has abusiness section, in which the deals and projects, finance and man-agement,stock prices and labor problems of corporations are reported daily. In addition, business news can appear in some of the unlikeliestplaces. The world of arts and entertain-ment is oftenreferred to as "the entertainment industry" or "showbusiness".
The positive side of Henry Ford's statement can be seen in theprosperity that business has brought to U.S.life.One of the most important reasons so many people from all over theworld come to live in the United States is the dream of a better job.Jobs are produced in abundance (大量地) becausethe U.S.economic system isdriven by competition.People be-lieve that this systemcreates more wealth, more jobs, and a materially better way of life.
The negative side of Henry Ford's statement, however, can be seenwhen the word business is taken to mean big business. And the term big businessreferring to the biggest companies, is seen in opposition to labor.Throughout U.S.historyworking people have had to fight hard for higher wages, better working conditions, and the right to form unions.Today, many of the oldlabor disputes are over, but there is still some employee anxiety. The laying off of thousands of workers to keep expenses low andprofits high cre-ates feelings of insecurity for many.

Photos that you might havefound down the back of your sofa are now big business!
In 2005, the American artistRichard Prince's photograph of a photograph, Untitled (Cowboy), was sold for $1,248,000.
Prince is certainly not theonly contemporary artist to have worked with so-called "foundphotographs" ——a loose term given to everything from discarded (丢弃的) prints discovered in a junk shop to old advertisements or amateurphotographs from a stranger'sfamily album. The Germanartist Joachim Schmid, who believes "basically everything is worth lookingat", has gathered discarded photographs, postcards and newspaper images since1982.In his on-going project, Archiv, he groups photographsof family life according to themes: people with dogs; teams; new cars; dinnerwith the family; and so on.
Like Schmid, the editors ofseveral self-published art magazines also champion (捍卫)found photographs. One of them, called simply Found, was born one snowy night in Chi-cago,when Davy Rothbard returned to his car to find under his wiper (雨刷) an angry note intended for someone else: "Why's your car HEREat HER place?" The note became the starting point for Rothbard's addictivepublication, which features found photographs sent in by readers, such as aposter discovered in our drawer.
The whole found-photographphenomenon has raised some questions.Perhaps one of the most difficult is: can theseimages really be considered as art? And if so, whose art?
Yet found photographs producedby artists, such as Richard Prince, may raise endless possibilities. What was the cowboy in Prince'sUntitled doing? Was he riding his horse hurriedly to meet someone? Or how didPrince create this photograph? It's anyone's guess.Inaddition, as we imagine the back-story tO the people in the found photographs artists, like Schmid, have collated (整理), we also turn towardour own photographic al-bums.Why is memory soimportant to us? Why do we all seek to freeze in time the faces of ourchildren, our parents, our lovers, and ourselves? Will they mean anything toanyone after we've gone?

According to a survey, which was based on the responses of over188,000 students, today's traditional-age college freshmen are "morematerialistic and less altruistic (利他主义的)" than at any time in the 17 years ofthe poll.
Not surprisingly in these hard times, the students' majorobjective "is to be financial-ly well off.Less important than ever is developing ameaningful philosophy of life." It fol-lows thenthat today the most popular course is not literature or history but accounting.
Interest in teaching, social service and the"altruistic" fields is at a low.On the other hand, enrollment in businessprograms, engineering and computer science is way up.
That's no surprise, either.A friend of mine (a sales representative from achemical company) was making twice the salary of her college instructors duringher first year on the job even before she completed her two-year associatedegree.
While it's true that we all need a career, it is equally true thatour civilization has ac-cumulated an incredible amount of knowledge in fieldsfar removed from our own and that we are better for our understanding of theseother contributions, be they scientific or artis-tic.It is equally true that, instudying the diverse wisdom of others, we learn how to think.More importantly, perhaps, education teaches us to see theconnections between things, as well as to see beyond our immediate needs.
Weekly we read of unions who go on strike for higher wages, onlyto drive their em-
ployer out of business. No company; no job.How shortsighted in the long run!
But the most important argument for a broad education is that instudying the accumu-lated wisdom of the ages, we improve our moral sense.I saw a cartoon recently which showsa group of businessmen looking puzzled as they sit around a conference table; one of them is talking on the intercom (对讲机):"Miss Baxter," he says,"could you please send in someone whocan distinguish right from wrong?"

Examinations
There are many arguments about examination. Some people think it is a good wayto test how examinees have mastered what they have studied and it is aneffective way to choose among candidates. So, as atraditional and popular method, it is widely accepted.
However, in some people's opinion, it is not the most scientificway to test a person's ability. To some students, examination means nothing butanxiety and heavy bur-dens.What is more, teachers'judgments can't always be impartial. All these willcause frustration to examinees and provoke their strong negative attitudetowards examination.
As for me, although the content of examination can hardly coverall the knowledge an examinee has grasped and the result of an examination mayshow only part of a person's ability, its function should not be totally ignored. Its basic function is just like amirror——it reflects both examinees and examiners. Both of them can check their work and learn how to improve it.ofcourse, there is a long way to go before we could find a simpler and more effectivewayof judging a person's ability.
